XNM - Excess air burners

The gas burners of the XNM series are medium speed burners of the “nozzle mix” type, ie with mixing by the nozzle, the particular construction characteristics allow them to work in stable flame conditions with excess air of 800%.


Description

The XNM series consists of excess‑air industrial burners designed for applications requiring stable combustion across a wide turndown range and the ability to operate with extremely high excess air levels, up to 800%. They feature a nozzle‑mixing design that separates air and gas until the discharge point, eliminating flashback risks and ensuring stable ignition conditions. The construction uses cast‑iron G25 for the mixer and plate, and AISI 304 for the air tube, allowing operation with pre‑heated air up to 450°C. Standard refractory blocks withstand temperatures up to 1750°C, with available power capacities from 30 to 1700 kW.

XNM burners operate by maintaining constant airflow while reducing only the gas flow to control heat output. This ensures that the volume and velocity of combustion gases stay nearly unchanged through the firing range, resulting in uniform furnace pressure, turbulence, and heat transfer. At high fire, flame temperatures can reach 1500°C, dropping to around 300°C at minimum gas flow with maximum excess air. The burners are suitable for annealing furnaces, heat‑treating installations, incinerators, brick kilns, air heaters, ladle and crucible preheating systems, and stress‑relieving furnaces.

Installation is typically wall‑mounted, with recommended clearances around the refractory block filled with flexible ceramic fiber. Flexible connectors must be used for air and gas piping, especially with pre‑heated air, and connections may rotate 90° to accommodate layout constraints.

Ignition normally requires a PBST blast pilot, with flame detection via UV scanners (counter‑clockwise); for smaller burners, direct‑spark ignition (DSE electrodes) is possible. Flame supervision is mandatory for furnace temperatures below 750°C. Capacity tables define nominal and maximum flows, while flame‑dimension charts outline expected flame lengths, which shorten with increasing excess air.

The documentation includes air/gas flow charts, dimensions for all XNM models, and ordering codes specifying burner type, refractory block, gas adjuster options, and alloy‑jacket configurations. Safety warnings emphasize qualified installation and mandatory combustion‑monitoring devices
