EMB-SIK - High velocity burners with flame tube in SiC
EMB-SIK are gas burners for direct heating. The shape of the silicon carbide flame tube produces a tense flame which allows for high heat penetration and better temperature uniformity inside the combustion chamber, due to the high velocity of the combustion products. Depending on the size and conditions of use, this type of burner can be used for natural gas or LPG, in the standard version, and other types of gaseous fuels with different calorific values, in versions upon request.
Description
The EMB‑SIK series by ESA‑Pyronics is a family of high velocity gas burners equipped with a silicon carbide (SiC) flame tube, designed for direct heating in industrial thermal processes. Their distinguishing element is the SiC tube, whose geometry produces a compact, tense flame, ensuring deep heat penetration and excellent temperature uniformity inside the combustion chamber. This is achieved through the very high speed of the combustion products, which can range from 50 to 120 m/s depending on the model.
The burners operate with natural gas or LPG as standard and can be customized for alternative gaseous fuels. Their power range spans from 30 to 900 kW, with a maximum operating temperature of 1,300 °C. The EMB‑SIK series supports stoichiometric, oxidizing or reducing combustion, with excess‑air operation up to 400%, allowing notable flexibility in process control. The burners achieve maximum capacity at 45 mbar air pressure, facilitated by built‑in absolute and differential pressure plugs for simplified calibration.
Constructed with robust materials—cast iron G25 for the body and gas collector, AISI310 for the combustion head, and silicon carbide for the flame tube—the burners ensure durability in high‑temperature environments. Their nozzle‑mix design prevents flashback by mixing air and fuel only at the combustion head, enhancing safety and stability.
Typical applications include fibre‑cover treatment furnaces, tunnel and car‑bottom furnaces, ceramic furnaces, stretching furnaces, and general industrial treatment furnaces. Flame lengths depend on the model and range from approximately 150 mm to 2,000 mm. Combustion emissions are reduced, with NOx typically below 180 mg/Nm³ (at 3% O₂ reference) under standard operating conditions.
The EMB‑SIK series also supports operation with preheated combustion air up to 550 °C, increasing efficiency and thermal performance. Each burner is supplied with independent ignition and detection electrodes. Configurations can be chosen based on required flame velocity (low, medium, or high), all determined by the SiC tube design.
