Description
The BTC and BTSA pilot heads series are premix pilot burners designed by ESA-PYRONICS for the ignition of high‑capacity industrial burners. These pilot heads are engineered to ensure excellent flame retention, high thermal resistance, and long operational life, making them suitable for demanding applications such as main burner pilot ignition, billet heating, glass furnaces, and casting operations.
These pilot heads operate with methane, LPG, or propane and offer capacities ranging from 1 to 15 kW. They use monoelectrode ignition and detection, with maximum working temperatures up to 1100°C. Their construction includes an AISI310/alumina ceramic combustion head and AISI304 or INCOLOY 601 flame tube, ensuring durability under thermal stress.
Safe installation and operation require adherence to specific guidelines. All activities must be conducted by qualified personnel according to applicable safety standards. Operators must use proper protective equipment and avoid contacting high‑temperature or high‑voltage components during operation. Air used for combustion must be clean and not preheated; filtered or external air supply is recommended to avoid contamination. Burners must operate strictly within rated parameters to avoid malfunction or premature wear.
The document provides detailed guidance for installation: using flexible connectors for mix piping, avoiding upward flame orientation to prevent obstruction or condensation, and ensuring correct premix pressures—typically 10–20 mbar for stable operation.
Startup procedures include verifying connections, ensuring minimum air and gas pressures, adjusting the air stabilizer, gradually opening the gas valve during ignition, and fine‑tuning combustion for optimal flame detection and stability. The flame quality varies with the air‑gas ratio: excess air leads to short blue flames, correct ratio yields a light blue flame with good detection, and excess gas produces long greenish flames.
Maintenance recommendations consist of annual checks of ignition components and periodic replacement of worn electrodes or damaged combustion heads. The manual also includes instructions for both ordinary and extraordinary electrode replacement, as well as dimensional drawings for various burner models.
