Description
The TESE series backfire safety valves are protective devices specifically designed for premix combustion systems, where the risk of flame backfire can compromise operator safety and damage equipment. These valves function as venting elements capable of releasing the overpressure generated during the ignition of an air–gas mixture, thus mitigating the consequences of a potential explosion. Their principle of operation is based on a mobile aluminium disc held by an adjustable spring: when a backfire produces a sudden pressure spike, the disc opens to release excess pressure and then closes again once conditions stabilize.
Constructed with an aluminium body, disc, and cover, supported by steel shafts, the TESE valves are lightweight yet mechanically robust. They operate up to 300 mbar and are available in three sizes: Rp 1½”, 2”, and 3”, making them suitable for different manifold diameters. Installation is permitted both horizontally and vertically, provided the valve is positioned to be directly exposed to the shock waves produced by potential backfires. Valves must be mounted on the main collector pipe, no more than 3 meters from the burner, and long manifolds require valves at both ends.
A built‑in microswitch serves multiple safety functions: shutting off the gas solenoid valve, triggering visual or acoustic alarms, or enabling data recording. The valve includes an adjustable spring mechanism allowing users to set the intervention pressure within 100–300 mbar, with preset factory calibration at 145 mbar. A table in the manual specifies the number of turns of the adjustment nut needed to achieve each pressure level.
Maintenance is essential to ensure safety: operators must verify disc movement and overall tightness after each intervention, inspect for foreign objects, check electrical cable integrity, and identify the causes of mixture priming before restarting burners. These procedures help maintain safe system operation and reduce explosion risk in premix combustion installations
