SHUTTER SHR - Checking device for permanent operation
ESA SHUTTER SHR is a vision dimming device for ESA UV-2 flame detectors, in applications with permanent burner operation. The device is installed between the burner and the flame detector, so that it can interrupt the light radiation to the sensor when activated.
Description
The ESA SHUTTER SHR is an electronic checking device designed for use with ESA UV‑2 ultraviolet flame detectors in applications involving permanent burner operation. Installed between the burner and the UV flame sensor, it interrupts the ultraviolet radiation reaching the detector when activated. This allows the burner control system to perform periodic functional checks on the flame sensor without turning off the burner. The shutter is normally open and is closed via an electrical command sent by the burner control unit or a central safety system. If the flame sensor fails the verification test, the burner is shut down safely.
Constructed from aluminum, brass, and steel, the device is robust and suitable for industrial environments. It has an IP65 protection rating, weighs 900 g, and operates within a temperature range of –20°C to +60°C. Electrical characteristics include operation at 115 or 230 Vac, 50–60 Hz, with a maximum absorption of 51 VA, and a quick connector with rectifier for wiring. Installation is possible in any position except with the coil facing downward.
The ESA SHUTTER SHR is compatible with burner control systems such as ALBEN, ESA ESTRO, ESA REFLAM‑H, and the EXP‑5 expansion module. Application examples include direct control by a burner management system or integration with advanced safety units for coordinated flame‑presence verification.
Installation and maintenance must be performed by qualified personnel. Key requirements include correct orientation, proper grounding, ensuring compatibility of voltage and control signals, and avoiding exposure to heat sources, corrosive agents, or electrical/magnetic interference. The device requires no calibration, but routine inspections are recommended: checking actuator closure, cable integrity, correct fastening, and proper periodic activation. If malfunction occurs, the shutter unit—and its electrical connector—must be replaced.
Overall, ESA SHUTTER SHR provides a critical safety function, ensuring reliable flame detection in continuous‑operation combustion systems.
